Olympic Town

Vancouver 2010. I just can't seem to get into the Olympic spirit, even though I have a pair of red mittens.

I like the atmosphere, but at the same time I don't really like the crowds and the lineups. Plus, I'm lazy. And busy. Duncan tries to get me out to do stuff, but I come up with excuses. I wouldn't mind going to the Art Gallery, but it's such a schlep to do anything! We were going to take the trolley from Granville Island to Cambie near the Athlete's Village, but that was an insane lineup, so we skipped it and walked instead. I don't think I missed out... the walk was lovely! I was wearing a t-shirt during the WINTER olympics. Good one Vancouver!

I did manage to go downtown when we went to see Feist at the Orpheum. Duncan has a crush on her, and mentioned a few times that she's "hot", but was disappointed by how short she is. I fantasized during the concert that I would learn to play guitar and then cover a Feist song and ruin her for him forever! It's mean but nice at the same time. It was a great show though, her voice sounds so cute and wispy and woodsy! I didn't appreciate the THREE standing ovations though. What a joke. I hate standing ovations and encores. I think Larry David would be with me on that one.

And then.... tragedy! Some dorks went and got all rioty on the HUDSON'S BAY COMPANY! Now, that's just not fair. The poor nice little Bay company (granted, now owned by Americans - how did I ever let that happen?). If I was rioting against the Olympics, I'd pick oh I don't know, the IOC or VANOC even, not the innocent BAY!. Those bastards!

Anyways, poor Duncan wants to see more of the Olympics. Perhaps this weekend...

"Hudson" Stuff

On Friday I printed a few Hudson's Bay inspired things, some shirts and totes. And then I got ambitious and put them on Etsy. Here they are:

Cats + Duncan = Love

Duncan hasn't quite embraced my cats as much as I would have liked. I don't blame him all too much since they are quite the little bastards. Examples? Constant meowing at night on balcony outside bedroom window, digging in plants, knocking everything over from tables and counters (remote controls!), scratching at MY VINYL, stealing food, noisily trying to open door handles at night (handles now replaced with knobs). Granted, those are all pretty annoying things. But you should see Duncan when he has to TOUCH one of them. He always asks me first, like "D? your cats?" and then I have to pause the TV to tell him, "do it yourself!" So he does and then goes and washes his hands RIGHT AWAY. But the other day he let Marley (the more troublesome one) sit on his lap. I think he was distracted by basketball. Or maybe he just loves them by association.

Chinese Lanterns

I just bought some chinese lanterns for Duncan. I'm going to surprise him someday and light them off, hopefully all at once. I don't know how I'll manage that, but I'll do something anyways. We lit some off on Hogmanay in Scotland, and he loved them, even though one almost lit him on fire.

I think you're supposed to write your hopes or dreams or wishes or something like that and send them off. No thanks, probably not! They do look really pretty in the night sky though. Isn't that enough?

British North America Map

So I caved and bought an old map. (What?) It's British, like my darling love.

AWOL, like Chuck Dugan

Duncan's favourite book is Chuck Dugan Goes AWOL. I really liked it, but I'm kind of waiting for the sequel to come out, as it really seems like the ending wasn't really the ending. I like finishing a book and wanting more. Hurry up Eric Chase Anderson! In the meantime I should probably finish watching The Life Aquatic in the meantime. I shamelessly fell asleep (I know, right?)

I would love to go AWOL sometimes. I'd go on so many adventures with balloons and pine trees and jellyfish. That's how I picture I'd go AWOL.

Jelly (these terrify me a little)

Oh Boy! You've Really Got a Hold on Me

He really does. Even this morning when I was grumpy and wanted to sleep in, I still kind of opened my eyes and smiled a little at him. He is slightly more pleasant than those extra minutes of sleep. I REALLY like sleeping. This song is so dreamy, I could just fall asleep listening to it...

And I sent him a link to Miss Li's "Oh Boy" when we first started dating, saying it reminded me of him. I think I blushed as I sent the email. Oh well. I like her.

Love on a Bike

On occasion, Duncan and I will ride our bikes together to work. The other day as we were parting ways, I watched him ride across the street and down towards the bridge. He was putting on his wool hat as he rode and I thought he looked so handsome.

These are some of the things that remind me of him when he's on his bike:
